After an unforgettable trip to India last October, the new year brings an exciting chapter for Coastal Brahmin: a new name and a fresh identity. Welcome to Cosanila!
Travel has always been one of my greatest passions, and India has long been at the top of my dream destinations. My journey there exceeded every expectation, immersing me in the vibrant culture, rich traditions, and incredible artistry that make India so magical. It was everything I had hoped for and so much more.
What made this trip even more special was having a purpose behind it. While it’s always fun to play the tourist, my husband, John, and I have found that our most fulfilling travels are those tied to a deeper meaning. There’s something so rewarding about going somewhere with intention—whether it’s connecting with people, discovering new crafts, or exploring creative opportunities. Plus, let’s be honest, having a purpose for the trip does make it easier to justify the spending!
One of the most memorable parts of my trip was meeting my partners at their factories and spending time with them. It was incredible to see how many hands each piece of clothing and linen touches before it reaches its final form. Connecting with my partners and witnessing their dedication and craftsmanship was truly inspiring.
Touring Old Delhi was a close second favorite. There is nothing quite like riding through the ancient, vibrant streets filled with millions of people. The flower markets, the spice markets, the bangle markets—everywhere you look, there is life and color. The smells and sounds that have permeated these streets for hundreds of years create an atmosphere unlike any other. It’s a sensory experience that stays with you forever.
This journey to India not only deepened my love for its culture but also inspired the reimagining of our brand. Cosanila blends the coastal charm of our roots with the Hindi word “Nila,” meaning blue—a nod to the serene ocean hues and the indigo dyes often used in traditional Indian textiles. This new name reflects the essence of who we are: a brand that celebrates heritage, artistry, and thoughtful design.
